The widespread use of English in China these years leads to the formation of two kinds of controversial languages: a new kind of world English called"China English"and the other so called Chinese English, abbreviated as"Chinglish". Emphasis on the studies of"Chinglish"and"China English"at home and abroad always been given differently. There is rare contrastive study of the two kinds of languages systematically. The studies of Chinglish are scattered in articles or books and the causes of Chinglish are just explored in light of the theory of second language acquisition. The studies of China English just highlighted the aspect of contribution to international communication from the angel of translation while the contrastive study of obvious different linguistic features between China English and Chinglish is not a hot topic.In view of facts above, this thesis is to investigate the linguistic features and characteristics of Chinglish and China English through contrastive analysis and error analysis with assistant examples from daily conversations, magazines, books, and conversations from TV. The reasons for their formation and development will be analyzed under the guidance of theories of interlanguage, fossilization, and the relationship between language, culture and thought. On the basis of the above analysis, the differences between the two kinds of language phenomena can be concluded: Chinglish is misshapen English which is produced by Chinese English learners and speakers who draw on Chinese rules and structures mechanically as a result of mother tongue interference and their low proficiency of linguistic competence. It does not conform to the rules of Standard English or English cultural convention. Whereas China English is a language that English is combined with Chinese social culture. It is the English with Chinese characteristics coined by the Chinese people, who have grown up in the Chinese social and cultural background, when they use English to express them themselves. It is greatly influenced by Chinese culture, the thinking modes of Chinese people and their own limited physiological condition. As a result, Chinglish not only causes the English learners'misuse of English language and confusion to the language's contained culture meanings, but more seriously, also hinders the cross-cultural communication between China and other English-speaking countries. However, China English can reach the aim of communication and can be accepted by Standard English speakers with Chinese linguistic features and cultural backgroundsBecause of the vast differences between Chinglish and China English, different attitude should be emphasized to treat them. The use of Chinglish needs to be reduced or eradicated, on the contrary, the use of China English should be proposed. In this way, the status of China English can be founded and the communication between China and other English-speaking countries will be more fluent. Therefore, the application of contrastive study between Chinglish and China English that emphasized in this thesis is significant. Through contrasting, the differences between Chinglish and China English are more obvious and through the combination of contrastive analysis and error analysis, the errors made by Chinese English learners can be analyzed easily and eradicated. In addition, some sensible ways are proposed in this thesis to prevent the formation of Chinglish and to spread the use of China English. Hope that the thesis can help English learners and experts to know more about Chinglish and China English, provide enlightenment on language teaching, and most importantly, exert positive influence on Eastern-Western communication.
