Translation criticism occupies the center of translation studies, whereas translation assessment is the core of translation criticism. It goes without saying the theoretical importance of the studies on translation quality assessment. Practically, with the development of economic globalization, the development of China's reform and opening up, the entrance of China into WTO, China is much more politically, culturally, and economically involved in the whole world. Therefore, a scientific, comprehensive, and maneuverable translation quality assessment model is of vital importance both to the development of translation theory and to the promotion of the communication and cooperation among different countries. However, hardly any systematic translation assessment model with linguistic and translation theoretical basis can be found except for House's Model of Translation Quality Assessment (1977) and its revised model by reviewing the western history of translation studies. In this sense, the studies on translation assessment is still at its preliminary stage. In China, Professor Si Xianzhu in his book Translation Studies: A Functional Linguistic Approach—Constructing A Translation Quality Assessment Model (2007) further developed House's model. However, neither House's model nor Si Xianzhu's model is perfect. Therefore, the thesis tries to construct a functional-pragmatic model of translation quality assessment which is more scientific, comprehensive, and maneuverable.Based on the interaction among language form, function and context, the thesis endeavors to build a model in which the micro parameters such as the ideational, interpersonal and textual function embodied by their corresponding transitivity system, mood system, theme and cohesion system of clauses are discovered and described. Then, by introducing the context, namely the pragmatic factors including the source text, requirement of the initiator, motivation of the translator, readers and speech acts that affect translation, the model revised its evaluation in the first step. Besides, the text type of the source text is judged to identify the weighting coefficients of parameters. Thus how the deviations of functions affect the translation quality can be assessed. By reviewing House's model and Si Xianzhu's model, revising the micro and macro parameters and the assessment procedures, the thesis tries to inherit and develop the aforementioned two models by constructing a functional-pragmatic model of translation quality assessment which is more scientific, comprehensive and maneuverable.
