Translation Practice Report On Creating Jobs (Ⅰ) On Summer Davos Forum

Summer Davos Forum is a non-governmental international organization aiming to improve the world economy by studying and discussing the world economic problems and to promote international economic cooperation and exchanges.During the forum,in order to get better communication and draw merits from each other,the representatives of each country need to submit a report.Thus,the translation of the report is essential for the exchanges of each country.Therefore,the author is entrusted by the Department of Management and Economics of Tianjin University to translate the report Creating Jobs on Summer Davos Forum.On the basis of this translation practice,the author completes this translation practice report.This practice report consists of four chapters in all.Chapter one serves as a brief introduction to the background of the task,the text and requirements of the client.Chapter two makes an overall description of the translation process from three aspects:pre-translation work,while-translation and after-translation work.Chapter three is the core of this thesis.Under the guidance of three metafunctions theory,the techniques of informative text translation is analyzed from the perspective of ideational function,interpersonal function and textual function.The last chapter makes an conclusion of the experiences and gains of this translation practice.Creating Jobs is an informative text with accurate and concise language and lots of declarative sentences aiming at describing facts and providing information.Therefore,the translator needs to understand the internal structure of the language during translation and reproduce the characteristics of the original text as much as possible.Then,the author takes three metafunctions theory of Halliday’s systemic functional linguistics as the theoretical guidance to complete this translation practice from the perspectives of ideational function,interpersonal function and textual function respectively.Finally,a conclusion is made that the ideational function is mainly achieved through transitivity system reservation and voice conversion.Theinterpersonal function is achieved through reproducing the mood and modality systems accurately and objectively to convey the ideas of the source text.The textual function is achieved through cohesion which includes lexical cohesion and grammatical cohesion.Thus,in order to achieve the same function as the source text and improve the quality of translated work,the translator needs to do certain adjustments on the basis of remaining certain features of the source text and use translation techniques comprehensively.
