A Study Of Thematic Painting In Watercolor

With Chinese booming social trends, the outlook of Chinese watercolor art is also undergoing profound change. Today, owing to the arrival of the economic integration and the information age, China and the world have mixing each other; the diversification of artistic concept and the multi-level of technological performance has become the main trends in the development of watercolor art; watercolor are also broadening its ideas to be understood and accepted by more people.Thematic painting is an important creative type in art history, and it enlightens the emotional appeal of human with magnificent, broad and humbling pictures. The thematic watercolor carries a wealth of social information, so it will enhance the social responsibility and awareness of watercolorist, and then, change the subordinate position of watercolor. Artist should focus on social development and social events should be an important part of art themes. With the diversification trend of artistic concept, people need new artistic way to express their feelings. Thematic watercolor cannot duplicate the road, and we should create a new look to show it magnificent.Chinese watercolor has made great achievements in a century, and it also faces a stringent challenge. How to broaden the watercolor language, to enhance artistic expression and to expand the capacity of social information is great issue for every watercolorist. This thesis combines theory with my creative practice of Salvation series, to research thematic watercolor in depth. First, through the analysis of the Chinese watercolor status, the author presents the value and meaning of the thematic watercolor. Then the author emphatically defines the conception of several major factors of it, and analyzes them in theoretical way. Finally, the author compares similarities and differences between the original intention and the results, and sum up the whole creative process.It is an effective way in art research to improve their theoretical knowledge and professional standards by creating a complete detailed analysis of case studies. This paper aims to preliminarily show the charm and the development space of watercolor by the authors'creative practice on social themes.
