Nie Er, as China's "people's musician," composed many musical masterpieces. His unique musical language vividly described the images of the broad working masses which were deeply engraved in our country's musical history. With new angle of view to see life, unique musical techniques to write melodies and a minute description, Nie Er created a number of imposing images in his evergreen works.In this article, author focus on the characters Nie Er created in his songs. Through study the overall structure of song, rhythm, melody, etc. I will learn the true feelings he wanted to show, and the different characters of all levels he described. At last, I will try to comprehend the content of songs and the voice of "cry for the public".This article is divided into four chapters. In chapter 1 I will introduce his music career and achievements. In chapter 2 I introduce the characteristics of Nie Er's song, an overview how folk music impacting on his music and Nie Er Nie Er significant rhythm in his songs. In chapter 3 I analyze the techniques that Nie Er used on shaping the character in songs. Nie Er used unique rhythm, lyrics, and music to enrich his songs. And he sharply portrayed the distinct musical painting of every social stratum. In chapter 4 I will focus on Song of Selling Newspapers, Graduation Song and The Persecuted Female Singer which described the images of children, young students, oppressed women and working class characters. And particularly analyze how the rhythm works on composing the characters. Through this article we can see the true emotion and features of the characters from different social classes.
