Composition Technology Analysis Of Horizon, Symphony No.2 By Ye Xiaogang

Horizon was composed in 1985, which is an early good orchestral work of Ye Xiaogang's. It was composed for soprano, baritone and orchestra. This work has been awarded"20th Century Chinese Classic"by Chinese Culture Promoting Committee. And the Tibetan traditional music was used as material , combing with composer's own aesthetics ideal and art pursuit .It built up composer's strong characteristic in melody, harmony structure and orchestration .It is a rare specimen of good orchestral composing in the 1980s of last century in our country.This dissertation used both the contemporary music analytical methods and traditional ways to analyze the symphony according to the type of music. Purposeful, focused, multi-angle analysis means to integration of traditional music with modern music analysis techniques. for instance: Tonal music analysis technique; double tonal , more tonal , suffused with the tonal tendency, melody tonal and relative tonal analysis technique.The following five aspects of Horizon were analyzed:On the form of Horizon, the overall musical structure has contained classical Trilogy-style complex form, and the interior structure of each movement in the work has shown many unique points.In the harmonic practice, the symphony has either inherited classical-functional system, or innovated ones. Such as complicated chord structure and progressive method of non-functional harmony have changed traditional harmonic meaning and value. The technology and the harmonic field makes strong modern style in harmony. Double tonal symphony with many tonal polyphony and group polyphonic structure types were used in the polyphony, which made strong modern composing technique characteristics.The usage of tonality shows the feature of bi-tonality, multi-tonality and pan-tonality, etc.Taking Rich percussion and Brass shows The pursuit of sound.Horizon inherited traditional quintessence and has developed the modern technology and style steadily.
