It tries to show that the tragical ending of thelove between Zi Jun and Juan sheng is caused by the difference of choiec between hu-manitarianism and individualism. Pervaded by feudal ethics, humanitarianism in theparticular Chinese circumstances is liable to alienation and degeneration, becoming theKiller of individualism, Zi Jun is a viction of humanitarianism in the Chinese circum-stances; A Sui, appearing in the symbolic form, is anemblem of the feudal powerwith consealihg and confusing qualities; Juan sheng is a firmer and more clear-mind-ed anti-feudalism pioneer than the other anti-feudalism intellectuals in "Na Han"and "Pang Huang". "Shang Shi" embodies the deepening of Lu Xun's anti-feudalthought. the re-construction of the Chinese national faith and the tendency towardsthe re-construction of the national spirit. With his unconquerable symbot of Life,Juan sheng indicates that Lu Xun's creative work has come to a new stage-fromthe exposure of morbid Character to the creation of ideal character.
