| Many people have made studied on the novel Le Rouge et Ic Noir from different aspects, including politics, social environment, love or the destiny of Julien Sore!, etc. Apart from these, Julien's desires have also been one of the main focuses of these studying. Julien's desires were composed of love, power and social status, which had been exposed in three major settings of his life. However, these desires were not what he really sought for through his life, but were served as the means to reach his goal of self-actualization. In order to achieve what he wanted, Julien had made out all of his wits to show himself up in the three life settings and had his ~vill finally fulfilled. His pursuit of desires was not really endless. In fact, his three desires all led to the same final goal梖reedom and equality.Yet, during the process of his pursuit, there had been stages of accumulated evolution among those different desires. The situation was exactly the same as the theory explained by the psychologist, A.H. Maslow. The complexity of Julien's behaviour had shown the dominating involvement of personal desire. Therefore, the study of the effect of one's desire upon one's behaviour, can be served as one of the methods for analyzing a novel. |
