Adverbial modifier is an important component in Chinese. Adverbial modifier in Chinese can be divided into thirteen sub-categories on basis of their meaning feature. They are: Time adverbial, Location adverbial, Degree adverbial, Object adverbial, Limits adverbial, Reason adverbial, Repeat adverbial, Wish adverbial, Basis adverbial, Approval adverbial, Negate adverbial, Feeling adverbial, Pattern adverbial, and Mood adverbial. The syntax called adverbial modifier in Chinese is called situation complement in Portuguese, which doesn抰 include all the types of adverbial modifier in Chinese. As result, when adverbial modifier in Chinese is translated into Portuguese, some of them are remained, some of them are affected by elements such as Portuguese order, semantic, and surroundings and transform into predicate, object, indirect complement, predicative, attribute or become part of predicate or predicative. Under certain circumstances, it can be obtained from voice. Why there are changes when adverbial modifier are translated into Portuguese? What language culture mentality does these changes reflect? Using gradation analysis, this article described 2131 Chinese sentences which contain adverbial modifier and their translations into Portuguese, and tires to explain the differences between Chinese and Portuguese from aspects as meanings of words, construction of words, ways of expressing grammar meanings, words grammar functions, words order, language culture mentality and etc.
