According to the recent researches on cross-cultural communication and vocabulary teaching, this paper points out the necessity to implement the teaching of culture into vocabulary teaching. The result of such a combination is the teaching of words?cultural meanings, which can be taught through contrastive analysis. An experiment was made in order to evaluate the teaching of English words?cultural meanings through contrastive analysis. The correlation coefficients and one-way ANOVAs of the data collected in the experiment indicate: 1) Contrastive analysis is a very effective method to teach English words? cultural meanings. 2) The teaching to English words?cultural meanings is hard to enhance English learners?intercultural competence in a short time. 3) The teaching of English words?cultural meanings can greatly arouse English learners?interests in English learning, and hence facilitate their English learning.
