In the course of the development of the classical on Chinese ancient poetry,many distinctive categories have come into being.Since influenced by Chinese conventional mentality,most of them are open.They are interrelated and individual as well.Usually, many sub-categories are derived from one category,which leads to the difficulty studying and mastering the essence of these theoris.The category "Xiang" Chinese term will the discussed in this essay for a clear mind of some of those theories.In the first section,the formation of the category Xing and its influent on Chinese ancient theories on literature will be mainly discussed .Xiang appeared first in Zhou Yi and was developed originally and it got further development by Laozi and Zhuangzi.Its formation being far-reaching influence to Chinese mentality and Chinese classical theories on literature.The second section,third section and fourth section will focus on the formation,development and the aesthetic features of categories "YiXing","XinXiang"and"QiXing"and the relationship between "Xing"and them.It was because the ancient people attached much importance to the intermediary of "Xing"that there formed a series of categories,such as "YiXing".These categories were developed and perfected by the ancient theorists after its formation,which enriched chinses classical theory on poetry greatly.Whats more, there are certain connections between these categories since they shared an original category.Certainly,"Xing"is only one of those categories in the theory on Chinese classical poetry.It's far from enough to understand the Chinese classical theory on poetry in essence if we only have some ideas of "Xing"and its related categories.The purpose of this essay is to contribute some new ideas to the research on chinses classical poetry- through discussing some part of those categories.
