The American advertising industry arrived at its first climax in 1920s. Studying on this will be beneficial not only to inquiry into the American society of 1920s from the new aspect but to the rapid development of modern advertising industry in China. Directed by Marxist historic materialism and dialectical materialism, this thesis uses some theory and methods of history, sociology, economy and advertising to show the American society in the 1920s and the relation of interaction between advertisements and culture and that between advertisements and economy. Then we can conclude: Economy and culture were real decided factors in the relation of interaction between advertisements and economy and that between advertisements and culture. As a confined body of economy and culture, advertisements of 1920s contributed to the coordinated growth of economy subsystem and culture subsystem. Growth of economy and culture in 1920s can be reflected by American advertisements of 1920s.
