It is commonly perceived that motivation is a crucial factor that influences learners in foreign language learning. It should be pointed out that there is another important factor which functions together with motivation, i.e. interest. Researchers have merely paid much attention to the interest existing at a higher level of motivation, i.e., intrinsic motivation, whereas little attention has been paid to its other forms. It can be regarded that it is interest that fosters motivation to develop from a lower to a higher level. The author of this thesis believes that both motivation and interest are important in foreign language learning and teaching. And a teaching framework Concept-oriented Integrated Instruction is provided here based on the classroom application of the achievement goal theory to motivate students in their English language learning.
