We may study the variation of the lexical meaning diversely from different aspects.Foregoing chapter of the thesis is the summary of the reason, the process and the result of the lexical meaning, that based on the traditional of the lexical meaning. With summarizing other people's accomplishments, writer discuss emphatically how the lexical meaning has changed during the process, point out the character and function of the lexical meaning, with image phase, pragmatic variation, history evolution phase and evolution result etc. We not only solve these questions by the traditional meaning of a word, but also point out the shortcomings of the lexical meaning, during the study of the lexical meaning.The follows is the discussion of the variation of the lexical meaning, with cognitive linguistics of idealized cognitive models (ICM) theory etc, of course, it's the emphasis of the thesis.As to cognitive models, it includes setting the question model, imagery schema model and metaphor model etc.From the angle cognitive linguistics, the variation of the lexical meaning is the change of different cognitive model, that is from one cognitive domain reflect or change to another cognitive domain. By the difference of cognitive model, the variation of the lexical meaning is divided into setting question model reflection, imagery scheme model and metaphor model etc. We introduce the basis point of cognitive linguistics about analysis of the lexical meaning. The basis point bring about convenience to study the variation of the lexical meaning. Then we analyse three different variation types, with some concrete examples.For the traditional meaning of a word theory, it is difficult to solve how about connection between the new meaning and the old meaning. Writer solve emphatically this key problem during the variation of the lexical meaning.
