As one of the most important trends in literary criticism in the second half of the 20th century, deconstructive criticism, with its bold doubting æ­±irit and unique critic strategies, has established a new angle in literary criticism and produced significant influence worldwide.Based on the post-modern cultural theories, framed in the Western deconstructive critics and focusing on the Chinese deconstructive critical texts in the 1990s, this thesis explores the development and evolution of Chinese deconstructive criticism and its impetus, attempting to find the new features of Sino-Western cultural exchange against the background of globalization.In the preface, it summarizes the development and the basic ideas of Western deconstructive criticism. The body comprises three parts. Firstlv, it illustrates the Chinese absorption of Western deconstructive criticism. For instances, surpassing the traditional binary logic, refreshing the recognition of linguistic codes, borrovving the characteristic concepts, say, 'difference', imitating deconstructive critical modes, and so on. Secondlv, it elucidates the variations Western deconstructive criticism in China, \vhich are mainly represented in the non-'appreciating' traditional reading methods, the insurmountable barrier between philosophy and literature, anti tradition while not anti-logos, advocating pursuing the marginal and reassuming the central, and the intensified historical sense. Lastlv, it discusses the impetus for the evolution in the Chinese context, --the homogeneous society converted into the heterogeneous society; the performing strategy of 'setting one's on spear against one's own shield'; the unavoidable restriction of the Chinese context; the psychological tendency of 'deifying the Wesf. In conclusion, the thesis evaluates the Chinese deconstructive criticism.In China, deconstructive criticism has combined with the particular Chinese context, furnished the equal dialogue betvveen Chinese and Western cultures with new perspectives and strategies, become a constructive part of the Chinese contemporary literary criticism.
