The Victorian novel has very important position in the English literature history This thesis is intended to study the lexical features of the Victorian English novels. In this sense, the author has investigated into the distribution of words in the Victorian Novels, in comparison with the LOB and CEC vocabulary. With the help of SNOBOL4, SPSS, and FoxPro, the author obtained the proportions of old words in Victorian novels as well as some other relevant data. Also, the author has illustrated some typical words from etymology and semantic points of view, with examples covering a wide range of subject fields and spheres of interest.It is hoped that some findings will prove helpful for those who are interested in such novels as well as some pedagogical guidance for college English teaching,...
