The paper analyses the structure of "VP Qilai" in modern Chinese. In the introduction section, " Qilai" is explored as "directional verb" and "quasiauxiliary word " respectively. In the first section of body part, the paper operates semantic analysis on "V Qilai" in the structure of "VP Qilai ", on the basis of which we explore the verbs which can collocate with the structure and those which cannot. In the second section, "A Qilai" in the structure of "VP Qilai" is described, and its semantic features and various kinds of constraints on the selection of adjective are analysed. In the supplementary section, two questions are discussed: one is the exploration on the grammaticization of "Qilai " structure on the basis of the analysis in the introduction section. We classify "Qilai" into five types, exploring its progressive change from notional word to function word. The other is the general comparison among "Qilai' "Xialai" and "Xiaqu". The main emphasis is put on the difference of the three when they are expressing the same tense.
