Research Of Sino-french Relation History From The End Of The 19～(TH) Century Till The Beginning Of The 20～(TH) Century (1894-1914)

The thesis states the development changes on Sino-French relation from the end of the 19th century till the beginning of the 20th century in politics,religion,economy and culture. As for the nations relation between China and France,the new change during the period showed some kind of steady development from antagonism to alleviation. At the same time,the Chinese political situation experienced the Qing Government,the Revolution of 1911 led by Sun Yat-sen,the Najing Provisional Government and the Northern Government by Yuan Shi-kai one after another,which caused the Sino-French political relation into variety. As to religion,the religious cases concerned by the missionary works which were arranged by the French catholic in China not only aggravated the Sino-French political conflict,but also accelerated the collapse of the Qing Dynasty.The catholic change after the Yihetuan Movement promoted the church and its cause,and made the Chinese internal nationalities contradiction more protruding,the church education emptied the Chinese education modernization into some new elements on the other side.As for the economy and the commerce during the period,the Sino-French economic and commercial relation was expanded markedly.The French direct and indirect investment in China and the commercial business were increased steadily.The Chinese foreign trade towards France was also raised one year after another.On the culture exchange,the cultures between the two nations came to mix together initially.The conflicts between the western catholic culture and the Chinese traditional culture were not expressed out totally in some intense confrontation after 1906.More important,the spread and the preliminary research in China on the French history and idea culture provided the Revolution of 1911 and May 4lh Movement theoretical base.which was an initial merging result as well as initial process.In a word,the Sino-French relation during the period formed a connected link between the preceding and the following in the two nations foreign history.
