By the conflict of literature and politics, the tragedy of WangShiwei may be researched from the following two sides: WangShiwei himself and the intellectual group around him. Thus, the soul of WangShiwei, an intellectual who engaged in the literature, should be reverted as it was.This article is divided into four parts.The first part is the introduction of WangShiwei's writings. Because WangShiwei was sinned for his article, I'd like to choose his article as the bedrock. By analyzing his novels in 1920's and scribbles in 1940's, we find that in his writings enlightenment is always his standpoint. Furthermore, we can conclude that the soul of his life is litterateur rather than politician.The second part discusses the effect of his mentality construction. Between literature and politics there is no conflict in his choice at the beginning. As thematerials concerned show, his engagement in the literature is a living resource. Meanwhile, he paid more attention to politics. As a modern intellectual, WangShiwei was raised in the traditional culture. In his short life he pursed the revolution wholehearted. After he came into YanAn, WangShiwei had some opportunity to enter the politics. That WangShiwei enter politics by means of literature suggested his following tragedy.The third part discusses the pressure of the culture environment around WangShiwei. The conflict of literature and politics was always the undercurrent in the development of new literature. The literature ideality that literature served politics came to be realization in the development of liberated-area literature. At the same time, the great change appeared in the intellectual group who were affected in the new cultural campaign. The authors and artists adapted to the main stream of that time but lost their own ideas. They served the politics. As the materials concerned show, WangShiwei undertook the animadversion that came from the intellectual group around him. The way that the intellectual animadverted on the intellectual appeared.
