Study In Piano Suite Temple Fair

The piano suite Temple fair composed by Jiang Zuxin won the Global Youth Festival Musical Competition of 1957. This opus is one of the outstanding works of 20th century, and also a representative one after the new China was founded. So far, whereas not a single monograph on this opus or the composer has appeared owing to historical reasons. And it is the right time to value this work on what it deserves and study it sufficiently.Based on the valuable first-handed materials offered by a close friend of Jiang Zuxin, including the composing process and design dictated by composer himself, the author of this article analyzed the harmony and music form, and anatomized its rich and new-style Chinese melody, harmony language, variable and interesting rhythm , piano-playing technique full of expressive force, and the story about a temple fair contained in five movements. Meanwhile, the author analyzed and studied the piano-playing skill newly, and represented new argument about the teaching of piano-playing.It is the first monograph on piano suite Temple fair grounded on the first-handed materials which have never been published before. It should be helpful to the related studies after as long as almost fifty years.
