The studies on the poems of Feng Zhi are reviewed briefly in the introduction to this dissertation. Based on this review, the theme of this dissertation comes into being, which is about the beliefs hi the poet's early poems. The first part of this dissertation develops this remolding with text interpretation of "Over the River". There are two reasons for the remolding. One is the spiritual dilemma of "heaven falling and earth cracking" and the tendency of "retelling the stories of the past" in literature writing. The other is the inferiority complex within Feng Zhi because of his family background. For the two reasons, Feng Zhi "retold the stories of the past" to release the inner tension in himself. But it proves that "retelling the stories of the past" can never release the inner tension but enable him to realize the spiritual dilemma he could not break away from. "Retelling the stories of the past" just shows the depression of individual existence-nothingness and disorder. In the second part, according to the sequence of the poems of Feng Zhi's early period, it is discussed how Feng Zhi was led by God to the way to a "new homeland" for spirit and how he was affected by a Christian complex to release the inner tension under the condition of "heaven falling and earth cracking", with the interpretation of his earliest poem "Back Home". And in interpretation of "A Battle in the Fair and "The Last Song", this part describes the course during which Feng Zhi sought for a spiritual courage and 'shows he had no choice but return from hardships and dangers. God is others', and never promise him. Hence Feng Zhi in despair degraded "God" in the western value system and regarded it as a concept to disclose his own paradox. Of course, the "God" as a concept never release the inner tension as the result of such a question "wherever I am going".Therefore, retelling the stories of the past creatively and cherishing the Christian complex of salvation from God, Feng Zhi in paradox just tried to break away from the dilemma of individual existence, namely, depression for such a metaphysical puzzle "wherever I am going". The effort Feng Zhi had taken is just one way he expressed the inner depression on his own spirit. |
