| The US immigration policy towards China is one of the most important parts of the US immigration policies. Its evolution is closely related with the development and changes of the elements such as politics, economy, culture and diplomacy etc in the American society. Compared with the US immigration policy towards other countries, its immigration policy towards China is more restrictive hi which there is stronger evidence of racism and ; prejudice.Firstly, this thesis introduces some guesses how ancient Chinese discovered America and the Chinese pioneers who arrived in America earliest. Then, I divide the US immigration policy into four periods to expound in details, that is the "Free" Period (1848-1882), the Forbidden/prohibited Period (1882-1943), the Restrictive Period (1943-1965) and the Equal Period (1965-2001). And at the same tune, I do a special research on the repeal of the Chinese Exclusion hi 1943.Lastly, I predict the trend of the US immigration policies towards China in the future and put forward some relevant strategies and suggestions. I hope that my work will be helpful to the policies towards Chinese Americans by our government. |
