Monarchs met to form alliances and strived for supremacy was an outstanding social phenomenon in the Eastern Zhou dynasty,and it also experienced a development process from prosperity to declination. This process is closely connected with the politics of the Eastern Zhou dynasty,and it is a special outcome of the government system of hegemony in Pre-Qin period. But the study on this question in the field of historical science is insufficient. On the basis of the literatures handed down from ancient times,archaeological discoveries,predecessors' researches and other interrelated historical data and materials,this paper has a systematic discuss on the development of the political activities of monarchs meeting to form alliances and striving for supremacy in the Eastern Zhou Dynasty. There are four main questions be discussed:1.The Xia,Shang and Western Zhou Dynasty's government system of hegemony and the position and role of the meeting to form alliances in it.2.The development and changement of the meeting to form alliances and striving for supremacy of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty.3.The government system of hegemony of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty.4.The historic significance of the meeting to form alliances and striving for supremacy of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty.
