In the history of western literature ,the 19th century was the century of the novels, and the achievement of the traditional novel reached the peak of perfection. The brilliant achievement of the novel is hiding the crisis behind its back: Clinging to old practices, refusing to accept new things, and stagnating. Writers that had sharp eyeses had realized the crisis, began to explore and breakthrough the art form of the trandoinal story. Among this process, the Amercian genius writer Edgar Allan Poe undoubtedly was a great forerunner. When his compatriots was advertising "inculcate a moral", the novels of Allan Poe had been demonstrating surprising originality and modernity. At aesthstic styles, Allan Poe break the traditional aesthstic pattern of "the true, the good and the beautiful" being unified, hold high the advocation of aestheticism "poem written solely for the porm's sake", combine closely beauty with death, write often "the death of the beauty" and "the revival of the corpse", and include terror and repulsion into the aesthstic category for the first time; On the content of the works, Poe broke through the tradition of realism reproducing the objective and realistic, transfering "outside" to "inside", for the first time deep to excavate human subconscious, leading form acting themes of alienation, lonely, death, etc. in the morden literature; In skill of narrating and the narrate tactics, Poe changed all-round the narration-visual-angle in the past the third person knowing all, began to adopt the limited-visual-angle of the first person, fully gave play to the role of imagination, and used many kinds of modern tactics, such as signifying, hinting, image, etc., making the works full of mysterious atmosphere ……The mordenity of Allan Poe's novels far surmounted his own era. Just because of this, Poe created only more than 70 pieces of short stories in all his life, but enjoythe numerous honors of the kingdom of the novel, even regarded as the founder of modernism. It's a pity that our domestic educational circleses has regarded the great master as one of second-rate aestheticism writers only for a long time, who had influenced the whole modernism literature and even literatures all of the worlds. This text attempts to abolish the prejudice, place Poe at correct height and position, enter his odd and uncanny novel world, and analyze the restless and uneasy modern soul contained among them , elaborating surprising modernity and originality of Poe's novels and specific context of the historic and cultural from two major respects :the meaning and narrative of the text( content and form ).
