On Modern Realism

Every theory develops in pace with practice. It is unavoidable for the birth of a new theory when the result of practice breaks through old theories. In- the research of the theory on Literature and Art, realism is an old topic which, on the other hand, is also a kind of theoretical category that gets the most intense and the most frequent influence from the practice of the creation innovation on the subject of Literature and Art.Theoriticians of different eras, from their own contemporary standpoints, give realism different and new meanings, especially in modern times, with the accelerating revolving of historical wheels, the form and connotation of realism have experienced great changes. But the theory on Literature and Art in China seems to remain unchanged. This state of mind in theory of meeting changes with constancy caused the disjointedness between theory and practice which also makes realistic theory lose its basic quality. This thesis tries hard to observe and investigate the development of realistic theory from historical point of view in order to explore its new characteristics in production and answer new questions in the creation practice.The full text is divided into three parts whose main points of view are as follows:Part I mainly discusses the impact of modern creation practice of Literature and Art on traditional method of realism, and analyses the limitations of traditionalrealistic method.In part â…¡, The new essences which are brought by the creation of Literature and Art to realism form Modern Realism, Also, by way of comparison between Modern Realism and traditional realism, we may judge in theory what on earth realistic spirit is and the essential difference between the realistic principle as a kind of creation method and the realistic theory as a kind of spirit.Part â…¢, on the basis of realistic theory as a kind of spirit, tries to define the new idea of Boundless Realism, entirely expresses the literary concept of Modern Realism suggested by the thesis and expounds the positive significance of this concept for the Literature production.
