In the late 1940s, Kuomingtang political power carried out the land reform movement in TaiWan. This land reform has qreat importance in the social stability and development of TaiWan. It can also enlighter countryside reform and agricultural development in the mainland. Due to the urgent demand of the economic and political environment at that time, the reform is enevitable. In 1949, when Kuomingtang JiangJieshi political power moved to TaiWan from the mainland, the island society was bogged down in crises. In elonomy, The production of Industry and agriculture declined; prices skyrocketed, and financial deficits. In politics: They were defeated side; Pefeatist sentiments are everywhere; The matove omfliemtoal strength didn't welcome Jiang's coming; Remnants of a routed army are lack of fighting will. In diplomaly: They are "of international orphan". To these, JiangJieshi must adopt the effective measures to strengthen its power. Land reform was one of its main contents. At the same time, the KuoMingtang political power had had certain favorable conditions on the cand of Tan Wan. Firstly, the international backgrownd is beneficial. Secondly, JiangJieshi had a mount of money at hand. Thirdly, It had certain social base . Fourthly, The authorities controlled some public lands. All these made the land Reform possible. Under the push of authorities' supporting policy on agriculture, Agriculture developed considerably, so did the other economic sections in TaiWan. Thirdly, It directly promoted the development of Industry and commerce in TaiWan. The local landlord and gentry became capitalists because of their holding bond and stock. The authorities emphasized the recovering and development of Industry as they were carrying out land reform, recovering and developing agriculture. Especially later it enlarged the products for export. It made the foundations of later economic take-off in TaiWan. Certainly, Ithas its limits. But it is successful in general.
