Adventure Beyond Imagination Into Souls--Yu Hua's Strenuous Spiritual Journey In Writing

Growing up quietly in the middle and late 1980s, the Pioneer Fictions upset the traditional aesthetic apotheosis, which had been dominative since the May Fourth Movement in 1919. His works were thoroughly studied and explored in the way " move my minds with the changing context and the writer's thought"; the charming aesthetic polyhedron was investigated intensively as a whole in order to trim out the aesthetic status in quo of Pioneer Fictions and to anticipate its orientation in future. Yu's works were reviewed alongside of his writing adventure into men's souls. His strenuous journey was described and analyzed from several angels: the trial of new writing forms and the return to the indigenous culture and so on. In his early fictions, Yu freed his imagination to search the true souls with the help of new forms and painted a picture full of violence and death, which we may call " the darkness of the world". Then Yu transformed his fictions from subjective imagination to reality by exploring not only new forms but adventure into souls as well. Furthermore, Yu turned to the indigenous culture, that is, the sapience of his people, to seek "the light of the existence", from which the first-class fictions BE ALIVE and THE STORY OF XU SANGUAN. Rooted from the individual people's life experience and sentiment, poetry and meditation penetrate Yu's fictions and promote his writing to solicitude people's life andliving.Yu Hua's fictions constitute an honest and noble world of souls. The ponder upon " the darkness of the world" along with the adventure seeking the " light of existence"; the desperate reflection over humanity along with the poetic salvation by the common people: the negative and positive sides together built up a spiritual sanity world. Yu Hua examined the dark heavens of human souls and revealed the souls' power arising out of the "light of the existence". Readers notice not only the pessimistic tragedy of life but the optimistic wisdom as well. Yu Hua's fictions are so charming that more and more readers are being attracting by the spiritual landscape on his adventure road to souls. Yu Hua deserves high expectation from the world. We hope YU Hua will never cease his adventure and created more numbers of impacting " Chinese images" for the world and contribute his " Chinese experience" to the globalized cultural context.
