Eiling Chang,a female writer in modern Chinese literary history,is well-known for her unique writing style related to her unique lot.During 1940s in Shanghai.she was extremely popular in literary circuls,subsequent to which she remained unknown for a long time.Since the end of last century.she as well as her works,has been great attractions to not only readers but critics.It is passions and sensibilities in turbulent days.the theme pf her works.that capture people's interest as the board!ine literture.Her miserable life experience enabled her to center merely on domestic affairs and emotions between both sexes without touching either turbulence of the times or politics.Her preferred emphases of theme contain the following:selfishness,despair,loneliness,isolation,men's incapacity and decadence.as well as women's smugglings in vain.However,the center of her theme hestlicts to the emptiness and solitation of life.Apart from her personal miserable life story.the reference from Chinese classical novels,especially from Dreams In The Red Chamber.and her comprehension on 'destruction' in Western literature made 'Desolation' keynote for her works.She was considered a pioneer in modern Chinese literature for two reasons:She unconsciously spread the idea of westen modenist school while writing;she was the first writer who concentratedon woman literature centred on politics and turbulence.In her novels there were detailed descriptions on authentic thoughts and survival of middle-aged women in that pecuiliar age.
