Desolation is not only Zhang Ailing's literary mind, also a life experience of the tragic fate, which core is the destiny of the tragedy with irresistible force and the human beings powerless to control. In her fiction world, the conversion of this philosophy concept was the lack of affection between blood relations in a large family and the loss of love in a marriage or between sexes. Zhang Ailing wrote both the vulnerable groups'powerless position when facing the personification of fate and the strong groups also engulfed by the personification of the fate The desolation in the novels was narrated in an artful way which was supposed to show a charismatic novel world: the traditional Chinese aspect is an old exquisite atmosphere filled with the rotting flavor, the psychological side belonging to the modern metropolis having a bright surface color but suffering the loneliness. These two blended fostering a special aesthetic style. The desolation poetics of Zhang Ailing's fiction is deeply germinated from the soil of her tragic experience. Therefore, the connotation of desolation, the tragic fates, the poeticized desolation, the root of desolation make up the desolation poetics of her fiction together. And these four parts are united logically.
