Vehement Singing Performance Of Grandeur And Magnificence

In 1990s, Liaoning Opera House created three Operas, i.e. Gui Qu lai, Cang Yuan and Cang Hai. All of them were put on stage and won great success. These three operas signified a new high in Chinese contemporary opera and made grand epic style a peculiar artistic feature of Liaoning opera.This thesis analyzes the features of Liaoning opera in terms of its performance. There have been few such studies in the field of music. It is a totally new subject. This thesis aims to summarize some principles and experience from the opera performance of Liaoning Opera House, particularly the singing with the hope that they will shed some new light on the opera performance and benefit the whole Chinese opera.The epic features of performance of Liaoning Opera House are expounded after a survey.The thesis consists of five parts.The first part introduces some basic information about three operas performed by Liaoning Opera House and the formation of its unique epic style.The second part gives a definition of epic and points out the features of the three epic operas, concerning the scripts, music and dancing.The third part, which is the most important part, presents the style and features of the three operas in terms of the performance of the performers. The focus is on the expressiveness of their singing, showing their various skills in aria, recitative, chant and chorus.The fourth part deals with the epic features of these three operas from other angles, such as the words, non-verbal behavior, stage dispatch and direction.The fifth part is a conclusion, summarizing the key points in this thesis.
