Zhanguo Ce Clique": The Narration And Literary Imagination On Nations And States

For a long time, Zhanguo Ce Clique has been misunderstood by Modern Literary History.In this paper, I regard "states and nations" as the entrance to discuss the Zhanguo Ce Clique. In order to revealing their contradictory and reducing the truth of history, we make an objective analysis and careful reading on the theoretic views and literary creations of theirs. Moreover, another purpose of the article is to study Modem Chinese Literature by another angle ------"the Discourse of State and Nation".This paper falls into three parts:Part One: Care about reality and prospect of the nation. In 1940's, because of the WWII ,the intellectuals of Zhanguo Ce Clique wavered between saving the nation from subjugation and rehabilitating our nation's culture. Stimulating by the rescuing the nation from the danger of extinction, they presented a state theory through explaining the relation between the dichotounized individual and the state, emphasized the state value, ignoring the individual values; sympathized with the government, ignoring intellectuals' critical attitudes. At the same time,they also advocated rehabilitating our nation's culture through two ways------appealing to the primitive vitality of the nation and learning from the West.Part Two: Deconsruction and construction. This paper takes Chen Quan as an example to discuss the rift that has been showed in the literary creations of Zhanguo Ce Clique. In concert with their theory about nation and state, they promoted a nation' literature movement, demanding literature must show the nation's consciousness. Chen Quan's view of literature is very unique. On the one hand, he viewed literature as a tool of revolution; On the other hand, he demanded that literature should show the commonhumanity. Because of the unique view of literature and the inconsistency between reason and feelings, the discourses of nation and state in his writings are full of contradictories. They are the conflicts between individual discourse and national discourse, the conflicts between national discourse and androcentric discourse, ect. The differences between theory and creation show the complicated respect of Zhanguo Ce Clique.Part Three: Review and reassessment. In this paper, Zhanguo Ce Clique isn't a political group which employed by the Koumintang government, but a loose academic group which composed of some liberalism intellectuals. Different from Lu Xun's way,they conducted the theme in era------reforming the national character------by other ways.In 1940's, the opinion about nation and state by Zhanguo Ce Clique was denied and criticized.
