In the history of Chinese literary theory and criticism, the worship and pursuit of aesthetic theme of poetry, such as "happy blend of feeling and setting", "connotation" and "images behind the real pictures", passes form generation to generation, and the original spirit of this lies with the outlook of Chinese philosophy------the " word-image-idea" pattern, that is, from Taoist to <> to thethoughts of metaphysics and Buddhist Philosoply in wei and Jin dynasty, such as that words can't express all the ideas, that all ideas or significance are shown through established images and that words are forgotten on gaining the ideas. This pattern of thoughts has a direct and significant influence on the Chinese culture. The establishment of the theory of the mood of a literary work, is the most important outcoming. The original philosophy of this establishment is up to literatis' unsatisfaction with the form and uncontentment with the being state in reality, anddemand to surpass the reality, to overstep the form and get to the noumenon------themood of Way. Therefore, the truth of philosophy of the theory of the mood of a literary work, is that feeling and setting blend with Way, that Way is beyond words, and that Way exists by the image. Then we can easily see that, the common theory of the mood of a literary work emphasizes the appreciation of the beautiful of the inner meaning. It discovers lyrics characteristics of appreciation of the beautiful, such as "happy blend of feeling and setting", "connotation" and "mages behind thereal pictures". But it doesn't or even can't answer the question------ why can thesubjective idea and objective mood be blended with each other, and create innumerable "connotations" and "images behind the real pictures"? The basic reason for this is that it ignores the metaphysical aspect. Only after introducing the outlook of "word-image-idea" pattern based on the Chinese ontology, can the question have a more satisfactory answer. This thought pattern experienced a complicated process of development and evolution. By carding and analyzing this process, the essay inquires into the background of the forming of the theory of the mood of a literary work and the inner meaning of its arrangement.
