A Research On "Jian Deng San Hua

Jian Deng San Hua" is three collections of short stories produced in Ming Dynasty by three different authors and they were written in classical Chinese. The first book Jian Deng Xin Hua was written by Qu You, who gave the name "Jian Deng" to his book based on its function of entertainment. The other two books followed suit, both using "Deng" in the names- Jian Deng Yu Hua and Mi Deng Yin Hua respectively.At that time,people in their free time in the evening usually told stories to each other and even wrote some sitting around a table with a lamp on.It should be the origin of the name "Jian Deng",meaning keeping light on by cutting the candle's or oil lamp's wick.The three books of short stories were important in the history of Chinese literature and had a great influence on the short story writers after them. However, the academic circle has not paid enough attention to the research on them and few papers and books about them have come out. For this reason, the article tries to supply the gap.It has three chapters. The first chapter tries to put the books into a suitable place in the development history of Chinese short stories, based on their importance and influence. I.They laid a basic foundation and structure for the development of the stories written in classic Chinese thereafter.2.They greatly influenced the writing of Legendary Stories in mid-and-late Ming Dynasty.including the famous Liao Zhai Zhi Yi,a collection of short stories.3.They supplied plenty of subject matter and themes for the later-on writers weiting short stories and dramas.The second chapter studies their contents and the ideas the authors try to express. 1 .The books expose the dark aspects of the society then and praise the young people pursuing true love. 2.They gave a bold description on human lust.3.From the books we can also see the development of the commodity economy in Ming Dynasty and itsimpact on people's ideas.The third chapter analyzes their artistic styles and qualities. 1 .They authors of the three bools paid close attention to the plots and,made the srories very suspenseful and interesting.2.They carried forward the great trakitions ofTang Dyansty Stories and portrayed plenty of vivid images of individual characters.3.They put lots of rhymed poems in their stories,making them more elegant,meticulous and profound.
