On Frege's Theory Of Concept And Theory Of Meaning

Frege was a founder of modern logic, pursing logicistic, he thought that mathematics could be deduced by logic and thus, that arithmetic's formal system could be established. He tried to study logic philosophy, it trying to expand concepts to analyses of sentences in thing natural language. Then he established the system of philosophy of logic. We can see his contributions to philosophy of language and philosophy of analysis from his theses: Function and Concept, On Concept and Object, On Sense and Reference, The Thought, etc. This paper comments on the core thoughts of his logic philosophy concisely and tries to reveal his influence on logic of future generations and philosophy of future generations, etc. The text is divided into three parts: Inlroduction; Theory of Concept; three and Theory of Meaning.Part one: Inlroduction. It Frege's main research work, his contributions to logic and philosophy, and the main aspects of this paper-theory of concept and theory of meaning. Part two: Theory of Concept. It introduces mainly Frege how to analyze function, concept, object, the differeces from function, concept, object, and Frege's purposes on researching function, concept and object. This part is divided into three respects: 1, Function and Concept; 2, Concept and Object; 3, Frege's Purposes on Researching Function and Concept, Object. Under Frege's meaning, function is incomplete, unsaturated. Concept is function that its values are truth values, and it isalso uncompleted and unsaturated. Object is completed and independent and it can be used to complement concept. In this part, the paper still study analyses about "is". Part three: Theory of Meaning. This part analyzes the sense and references of his proper name, concept phrase, sentence and clause. In the analyse of sense and reference of concept phrase, the part makes an analysis on his "concept-word meaning concept" and thinks it is obscure. According to Frege's "concept-word mean concept" we can establish unsuited sentence. In Frege's thought, sense of sentence is thought, reference of sentence is truth values. Truth values of sentences keep constantly, when a part of sentence is replaced by the expressions its references are same but senses are not. But, do the truth values of sentence keep constantly if the expression is a sentence itself? Then we must think of clause. This paper analyzes the specific condition he explained clause. Frege thought sentence has direct and indirect reference in complicated context, Substituteing salva veritate not losing its effects. The paper doesn't think that he explained whether substituting salva veritate could proceed smoothly at arbitrarily sophisticated context and that it is impossible that his explanations about sentence had direct and indirect references...
