The period of King Kongmin (1352 -- 1374) overlapped the time of Yuan and Ming Dynasty in China, when there happened the great transformation in Koryo's external relations. In order to reinforce the declining Koryo Dynasty, the ancient Korean state, and regain the national sovereignty, King Kongmin carried out the reform.According to the content of the King Kongmin's reform in the early days and anti-Yuan policy, the following article is divided into five chapters..(Chapter One) Introduction: The current situation, purpose and significance. etc of the study on this subject.(Chapter Two) The relationship between Koryo and Mongols (Yuan Dynasty) from the early part of the 13th century to the 1540s: It is about the seven wars between Koryo and Mongols (Yuan Dynasty), and their diplomatic relations of each other after wars.(Chapter Three) The enthronement of King Kongmin and the reform in the first year of his reign: After the many hardships, King Kongmin succeeded the throne in1352. In order to restore the Koryo Dynasty, King Kongmin announced the rescript, that is,the reform in the first year of his reign. In this chapter, the succession of King Kongmin, the content of the reform and the reason to the failure of the reform are discussed. (Chapter Four) The enforcement of the anti-Yuan policy and the reform in the fifth year of the reign of King Kongmin: King Kongmin's implementation of regaining the national sovereignty, after eliminating the pro-Yuan officials in the imperial court, coordination of the anti-Yuan policy and the reform in the fifth year of reign to solve the social contradiction are discussed here. However this reform suspended after invasion of the Red Turbans.(Chapter Five) Conclusion: The purpose of the reform was to transform the turbulent Koryo society under the control of Yuan Dynasty. Although it somehow contributed to the social stabilization, the strong national defense and the regain of the national independence, it failed to remove the ingrained internal contradiction in the Koryo society.
