Since "The Family of Red Sorghum" in 1986 till now, the creativity of Mo Yan has been vigorous and endurable, and the points more valuable and worthy of research can be exemplified in the following. His works endowed with unconstrained artistic talent gratify various fields, and he does not replicate his works on the same level, but strives to explore both as a writer in army and a spokesman for folk writings. Mo Yan can blaze a new way in every field's creation, and his works embody the profound connotation of the themes and the innovation of narrative approaches. Simultaneously he can be called an innate pioneer novelist, and his works are more or less imbued with sub-consciousness and taboo-free association explicitly or implicitly, and full of brutal personality, and connected with the psychological activities unconscious of race. The multidimensional structure and multidirectional radiation of the cultural space per se lead to the "explosive", multi-level and "roaming" stylistic features. "The Punishment of Sandalwood" can be called a pure folk work, and its form, language, and internal spirit are the bursting of genuine folk consciousness. In the thesis the author analyzes the creativity of Mo Yan from three levels.Part I Sexual Love, Vitality, and Inherent Weakness of a nation. In this part the author traces the creative source of Mo Yan from theme intentions. Generally examined, the theme intentions of his works spread from two dimensions. One is the eulogy and popularization of vehement sexual love and fanatical vitality, and the other the revelation and castigation of the inherent weakness of a nation. The relation between them is self-evident, and it is the two facets of one thing, and they embody his consideration and exploration of rebuilding national soul.Part II Sensation , Passion, and Narration. In this part the author lays stress on the aesthetic qualities of Mo's creativities.1. Fresh and Exuberant Artistic SensationFrom the linguistic perspective, Mo's novels are the art of sensation. His fresh, rich, imaginative and explosive artistic sensation create a brand new and unique space in his novels, in which is implied the uncertainty of time.2. The Subjective Passion Full of warmth, Ease and VerveDifferent from those writers of introspection, speculation, rational writing, Mo gives an enormous publicity and vent to the internal passion, which is more represented as the irrational emotional revelation. As a "chanter" releasing subjective passion, he rebels against and challenges the traditional aesthetic models even to a greater extent, especially in pioneering the field of appreciation of hideousness, in purposefully constructing the world of symbolism and metaphor, and simultaneously in completing and enriching modern aestheticforms.3. The Free and Open Narrative ApproachThe narrative perspectives and methods are varied in Mo's works. And his varieties and experiments in narrative approach produce far-reaching influence on the literary field and writers of his time.Part III Folk Stand, Carnival DiscourseIn this part the author lays stress on the folk cultural stand and its spiritual trend in Mo's novel creations.1. The Establishment of Folk StandMo first discovers the vivacious and free spiritual trend and life forms, latent in the depth of the people, and then sublimates them into independent and lofty folk aesthetic consciousness. Consulting the multicultural context and examining the modern rational consciousness, he discusses the great significance of folk cultural forms to the spiritual generation of contemporary human beings and the generation of genuine modern works in contemporary China.2. The Political Ethics of Human BodyThe depiction of human body sensation presents an explosive state from the stimulative intensity, and shows a strong spiritual energy of perceptual experiments once more, and embodies the rebellion of folk society against the mainstream society.3. The Spiritual Scene of CarnivalMo has written nume...
