This thesis deals with the psychological growth of Emma in Jane Austen's most successful novel Emma. Emma undergoes a remarkable moral transformation at the end of the novel. She grows from a innocent, selfish into a mature, understanding woman. The thesis is divided into four chapters. Chapter One focuses on Emma's psychological innocence and self-indulgence. I offer facts that show Emma's fantastic imagination and Emma's shortcomings through her attitude towards marriage, friendship and people lower than her. Chapter Two concentrates on Emma's domineering manners and behaviors. Chapter Three analyses Emma's frustration and she begins to adapt her to the social reality. Chapter Four displays Emma's psychological maturity. She accepts marriage and her social roles.
