From the perspective of the crisis of western civilization, which includes scientific crisis, political., ethic and social crisis, and humanity crisis, the treatise inquires into the question of Gadamer's turn to practical philosophy. Viewing from the perspective of the crisis, I think that what Gadamer does in the middle stage of his hermeneutics is to defend the independence of the humanities against the unreasonable demands of the method by the way of reflecting on understanding, and that what he does late in his practical philosophy is to justify the foundational position of phronesis against the domination of the scientific reason over the whole society, to propose the unity( the aim of his practical philosophy )as well as the dialogue( the way to attain the end), and point out that the dialogue to arrive at the good(unity) is the only way to extricate ourselves from the crisis. The treatise is composed of four parts. The first part is on the main factors to urge Gadamer's turn to practical philosophy: the immediate sources of theory from Husserl, Heidergger and Hartman, the inclination of practical philosophy latent in the philosophical hermeneutics, to meet the demands of solving the crisis and the spur from debating. The second deals with the possible base for the turn, which reveals on the affinity between understanding and practice, dialogue and phronesis. The third expounds the core of Gadamer's practical philosophy, which mainly contains the concepts of practice, phronesis, friendship and practical philosophy, and the way to attain the ideal of his practical philosophy. The conclusion points out the significance of Gadamer's practical philosophy. The original points of the treatise lie in three, first. I consider the crisis as a internal hint through the middle and late stage of Gadamer's thought, which can be united as one to answer the crisis question from part to the whole.Second,I probe into how Gadamer turns to his late practical philosophy. Finally,I put forward the viewpoint of practical dialogue as the essence of Gadamer's late thought on language, which hold that the political good of Greece(unity) can only be realized dialogically.
