Study On The Personality Characteristic And Impact Factors Of Androgyny Undergraduate

Psychological Androgyny means the combination of masculinity and femininity. In 1974, basing on the standpoint which suggest masculine and feminine temperaments are two different dimensional structures, S.Bem workouted the Bem Sex Role Inventory (BSRI) and the reaserches of androgyny began, which were mainly supported by two important theorys proposed by Bem and Spence. Most researchers agreeded that the androgyny individual was responsable flexibly in different circumstances and had mental health highly. Meanwhile, the controversy also appeared and have never stopped as yet, which focused on the question that which is ideal personality model and mental healthy stander , masculinity or androgyny? Being in the beginning, psychologycal androgyny surveys in China is fewer and which methods and conclusions are consistent with each other, but there are many questions to be research.The study care about two questions mainly——the trait of Chinese androgyny personality and the mental health of androgyny. The research hypothesis the trait of Chinese androgyny personality include instrument, independence and interpersonal sensitivity which were foreign androgyny personality structure discovered by other studies. Another hypothesis is that the mental health level of androgyny is the most highly in all sex role stereotypes, which was detected by domestic study. The study carried by two scales,BSRI and CPAI-2. The sample is 976 undergraduates come from five universities in Kunming. Yunnan province. China. The date was dealed by social science statistic soft pack SPSS10.0. Principal methods are factor analysis and one-way ANOVA.The result of personality research consist with hypothesis and show that angrogyny individual have the social potency possessed by masculinity and interpersonal relatedness possessed by feminility simultaneously. The resulte also show there are no independence but creativity in the structure of Chinese androgyny personality. The result of mental health of androgyny is different from hypothesis, which show androgyny is healthy as masculinity ,while, compared with feminility and undifferentiation ,androgyny is ideal ; We alsofind that sexual maladjustment of androgyny individual is so easy to stimulate by some factors of environment. Another finding is androgyny woman is more healthy than androgyny man ,so it seems that "androgyny" is only meaningful to women. In addition, there are more correlations between androgyny and masculinity than that with femininity. Several variables was found to influence the androgyny personality including gender, madjor, region and nationality , which mainly make the dependability trait differrent but the differences is consistent with layman's explaining. The final finding tell us the major sex types of man students are androgyny and masculinity while women students' sex types is mainly femininity. Finally,we advocate to induct the "androgyny" concept to public based on the research.
