Gender is one of the fundamental categories of human society. Gender role is a multidimensional construct including a wide range of gender related personality traits, values, activity preferences, styles of adornment and social interaction. The present study was designed to investigate the distribution of each gender role identity category in a sample of Chinese university student and compared with results in western countries; to explore the relations among differentiated gender role identitity and a set of measures for mental health in Chinese culture.We sampled 149 male students and 217 female students whose age range from 17 to 23. A set of self-report questionnaires was used in this research. At first ,CSRI was used to investigate the gender role identity. Then we applied The Acceptance of Others Scale, The Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory-Form Y and The General Well-Being Scale to evaluate the average level of mental health.The results showed that the percentage of individuals in A- and A+ is similar, and moderately higher than other categories, with the least number of individual identified as Au.
