For the sake of making drama off the dramatic crisis beginning from 1980s, Xing-jian Gao engaged in omnibearing exploration from theory to practice .by means of systematically combing the dramatic exploration from theory to practice of Gao's, discussing the far-reach influence on "the Avant-garde drama" of 1980s and on contemporary drama, analysing the contemporary drama which is still in crisis ,we found, it is a waiting realized dream to make drama into the other shore where there aren't any crisis. In order to carefully observing the developing and trend of contemporary drama , the paper regarded the dramatic exploration of Gao's as a entrance point and expounded with three arrangements from point to entirey area.Facing crisis, on the one hand Xing-jian Gao retured to thing-in-itself of dramatic performance and constructed theoretically "whole drama" after imbibing tradition and using the experiences of the West, on the other hand he dependably put his theory into dramatic practice and rewarded tremendous achivement. The ominbearing exploration of Gao's rewarded distinguished results concerning dramatic art, but didn't attain it's objective in the light of the developing of contemporary drama. The exploration of Gao's arising from crisis didn't spur on contemporary drama off the crisis and drama still existed in crevice. Drama withdrawed from "popular art" to "minority art", even still hardly struggling to really realize present "minority". On the basis of this fact, the paper hold that the dramatic exploration of Gao's couldn't grasp the transformation of era beginning from 1980s and the inherentshock which drama give to spectator, that going with the current of impulsive era Xing-jian Gao refused dramatic ideology as well as dramatic literature, that he stoped after getting a little knowledge of dramatic marketization. As a result, the exploration of Gao's started from narrowing the distance of drama and spectator and seizeing back spectator taken away from theatre, but in fact it increased the distance between drama and spectator and made drama drift apart spectator. the defect of Gao's dramatic exploration is also the confine of "the Avant-garde drama" of 1980s and 1990s.The paradox of purpose and actual effect of Gao's experiment reflects defects of dramatic exploration which attemped to sperate itself from crisis in 1980s and 1990s. Under the circumstance of market economy, dramatic unique situated between commerce and uncommerce resolves that we cann't handle drama oversimplificaly, on the contrary we should give consideration to many factors such as market and art, and seek the road of dramatic development. The unbalance of market and art decides dramatic market depression more or less and makes wishfull thinking go against actual effect in spite of the dramatic exploration of 1980s and 1990s was stormy and heroic.under the circumstance of market economy, contemporary drama on the one hand should fit in with marketizable regulations and should adjust its operation according to production law, on the other hand we should strengthen the study of drama basis law, such as dramatic spectator doctrine, spectator aesthetic requirement of new era, mutual causality of drama and spectator and era specific property of dramatic inherent law. Like this, drama the ancient art will fresh with new vigor.
