The Policy Of Elevating The Civilian Official And Debasing The Military Officer In North Song Dynasty

It is well known, in North-Song dynasty, that people had thought highly of civilian official but contemned military officer, which had brought tremendous effect. However, the policy of the elevating civilian official and debasing the military officer in North Song dynasty, which had brought the custom, lack study in history, especially lack a whole and system analyze. In this thesis, we will comb the policy and analyze its reason and effect.In the approach of studying this thesis, we study the policy mainly uses induction, logical reasoning, and comparative study, based on history knowledge about song-dynasty and Marxism political theory. The content is studied mainly in three parts as follows. Part I combs the policy of elevating civilian official and debasing the military officer in North Song dynasty. We think the policy is not attaching importance to the civilian official and contemning the military officer. And the policy includes three aspects: the status of the civilian official had improved comparing other dynasties. On the contrary, the status of the military officer had debasing. And the status of the civilian official was higher than that of the military officer. Part II probes the prime reasons of carrying out the policy. We think, in this thesis, Song dynasty made the policy in order to preventing the military officer stealing the power. But the policy running long and enforcing in the late Song dynasty was depended on the effect of the civilian official. The civilian official, in North-Song dynasty, was the prime advocator of the policy that could bring them interest and maintain the feudalism order. PartIII analyze the influence of the policy. We think, as a coin had two sides, the influence of the policy also had two aspects: the positive effect and negative effect. The negative effect was the main aspect because the policy had run extremely.
