Genre Analysis Of Text And Its Application To College English Reading Teaching

Analyzing the specific cognitive structure of the specific discourse in the aspectof genre is genre analysis which is a new subject of discourse analysis. In the recentyears, genre and genre analysis have become the noticeable topics of the field oflanguage teaching, especially the second language teaching, and genre-based teachingapproaches are the ones on the basis of the concept of genre and the theory of genreanalysis, that is, applying the genre and genre analysis to the teaching practice in class. Through several years' efforts by the teachers and students, much progress hasbeen made in the college English reading teaching in China. However, college Englishreading teaching is still short of something in some aspects, such as the specificteaching methods, teaching theories, teaching surroundings, teaching effects, and soforth. The thesis deals with the theory foundation of genre analysis and its application tothe reading teaching practice, considering the fact of college reading teaching in China.Moreover the author made the teaching trial in one academic year, which is beneficial tothe combination of linguistic research and teaching practice. Genre analysis deeply analyzes the text in all aspects, which help students toknow the social function and purpose of genre and understand the written language ofspecific genre. It could partly solve a certain problem of current reading teaching. Thecertain problem is that some teachers always focus on the separate sentences in one textand ignore the whole structure. The deep and all-sided genre analysis could reallyenhance the ability of students to read text and communicate with English.
