The Localized Development Of Macau's Contemporary Art

In the trend of globalization, Contemporary Art artists in the world are making their great effort in developing a global language of art, and thus the unique art character of a certain place seems to become less and less distinctive. However, in the last few years, the "localization" of art has become an important issue again. It is claimed that if the local circumstances are still believed to be the foundation of Contemporary Art, a distinctive art character of each place is a necessity. Since 1999, the return of Macau to China, the government of Macao Special Administrative Region has been doing a lot in seeking for her distinguishing features in its local culture so as to find the right position of its local art. Does Macau's Contemporary Art has enough potential to demonstrate its own characteristics on one hand while not losing track with the international art on the other? The thesis stresses on providing a prospect and inspiration of the localized development of Macau's Contemporary Art by means of analyzing the social features of Macau and the global trend of the 21st century.
