This thesis is mainly about the Macau Government's rule for the Macau Chinese after the Opium War. The Macau Chinese's attitude for the role is another key points.Through the research, we can find the facts. First, the Macau Chinese was becoming more and more after the Opium War. The Chinese gradually occupied the main body of Macao society. At the same time, The Macau Government had issued a decree for the Chinese, and they also had established institution which was for the Chinese specially. Bao Jia Zhi Du(保甲制度)which was the Chinese tradition became an important tool of Macau Government to rule Macau Chinese. Second, Macau Chinese had a different reflection for the rule of the Portuguese government, both of acceptance and opponents. But no matter what were their attitude for the Portuguese rule, they were giving long-term concern and support for China's domestic affairs. And they played a heritage and promoting role for Chinese traditional culture. In my opinion, during the late Qing Dynasty, Macau Government tried to put the Chinese into its management system, and they intended to establish its sovereignty over Macao. At last, Macau Government confirmed its jurisdiction,Jurisdiction and Financial power in Macao. But they did not achieve the intention of obtaining the sovereignty of Macau. The Macau Chinese separate in different levels, and their attitudes for the Macau Government are different.
