The Metaphysical Poem

This thesis consists of three parts: The first part discusses the definition and development of the metaphysical poem. The part is the basic one. The metaphysical poem discusses the metaphysical theory by the metaphysical thinking way. Zhengshi Dynasty is the breeding-time; Western Jin Dynasty is brewing and setting time; Eastern Jin Dynasty is splendidly developing time; Jin Song Dynasty is the end of metaphysical poems. The second part probes into the thinking origin and the social background of metaphysical poems. We affirm that the relation of metaphysical poems and the metaphysics is inseparable, but at the same time we also point out that the development of the latter one is obviously faster than the former one. Metaphysics is the foundation of metaphysical poems whose purpose is to appreciate. The influential-family politics of Eastern Jin Dynasty was the balance of the imperial power and the educated-manpower and the latter one became the main body of writing naturally. The atmosphere of the politics and the culture was loose and comfortable, so metaphysical poems were developing fast and turned into the main trend of poems. The disciplinarian of the literature development also impels metaphysical poems to bring about and die out. The third part is the most important one that discusses the value of metaphysical poems, including the beauty of philosophy and intelligence, the beauty of realizing and comprehension and the beauty of the simple and plain language. The part also involves the influence of metaphysical poems to later poems.
