In the eyes of poetry tradition of ancient China, the Metaphysical Poetry is a heresy. It is strange that such a heresy had a great vogue in Dongjin Dynasty for about 100 years. In this thesis, it makes researches on it by means of text analyzing and history returning. The thesis is divided into two chapters. The first chapter briefly analyzes the works of the Metaphysical Poetry, then makes definition on it. In retrospect of the previous results, it's very sorry to find that the definitions made by ancient researchers are too simple, and the ones made by contemporary scholars are not based on text analyzing. It analyzes three types of the Metaphysical Poetry and concludes a definition for the Metaphysical Poetry , then it defines the range of the poetry. The second chapter briefly inquires into the generation mechanism of the Metaphysical Poetry, which reveals not oniy in the generation process of the cultural thought, but also in the creation process of independent aesthetic appreciation . Thus, it probes into the generation mechanism of the poetry in the following three points: I . Sinking into one's soul 2. Dispelling the mental agony 3. Surveying the profound theory by means of observing mountains and nvers Through analyzing, it comes to a conclusion: it is very natural that the Metaphysical Poetry-not only to have been in fashion for about one century, but also to have played n important role in the development of Chinese literature; and the contribution of the Metaphysical Poetry to the history of poetry lies in its broadening the literature vision by introducing philosophic thought and aesthetic spirit nto it.
