The Main Features Of Descriptive Adjectives And Related Problems

With the development of grammatical research, descriptive adjectives, as a sub-category of adjectives, are separated from adjectives. On the basis of many scholars' studies, this paper has a study of descriptive adjectives in all views, which not only make uses of other scholars' achievements but also the theory of the cognitive linguists to explain many complicated problems that some scholars consider difficult to resolve. The paper draws a conclusion about the scope of descriptive adjectives, so we have a clear understanding of descriptives adjective. Besides that, it also summarizes the main features of descriptive adjectives. According to the theory of the cognitive linguistics, the writer puts forward the cognitive patterns, such as metaphor, mental images and overlaying meanwhile having a discussion of the emerging and disappearing of "de" and descriptive adjectives. What's more, it also discusses the transformation of "de" in the last part.
