This essay analyses the irrational passion in Stefan Zweig's novels. It consists of three sections. The first section introduces Stefan Zweig and the characteristics in his novels. It puts forward the argument about the irrational passion in Stefan Zweig's novels. The second section has four parts. Part 1 discusses the irrational love in Stefan Zweig's novels. The author often describes the single love and uses the method of psychoanalysis to stress the irrational passions of the hero or heroine, which usually display the rational human ideals and pursuits. Part 2 examines the aesthetic ideals in the irrational love in Stefan Zweig's novels. In his novels the author often uses symbolism to place his feelings and thoughts on the irrational love he describes. The irrational love usually becomes the way to self-actualization or a kind of belief or religion. It is the way in which his heroes or heroines surpass and distill themselves. It is the love itself that affirms their values and the wealth in their spirits. So the irrational love in Stefan Zweig's novels has high aesthetic meanings. Part 3 explores the irrational humanitarian passion in Stefan Zweig's novels. The author creates many images of humanitarian passion at a special angle of view and with excellent skills. He places sincere praise on them and shows heartfelt sympathy to them. In them he articulates his humanitarian ideals such as sympathy, love, sacrifice, forgiveness and the like. Part 4 analyses the resistant spirit in the irrational passion for arts. Zweig uses his pen as a weapon to fight against the war and the evil society. The third section analyses the author's extraordinary writing skills in displaying the irrational passion. He is good at the method of psychoanalysis. The narrative structure is special, too. His language is concise and vivid. So his novels can appeal to so many people and move them.
