Li Qi, a combination of uncommon brilliance and little status, brought extraordinary honour to the poetry circles of the flourishing period of the Tang dynasty with the especial style and features in his pomes. He failed to achieve his ambition in the official circles, and there is only a sketchy record of him in the historical material, which is mainly about the dates of his birth and death, the province and county of his family register and the time of his passing the imperial examination. It is not until the 1980s had some theses on him and his achievements occurred, however, most of them are only about the content and style of his pomes rather than the researcher of him and his works as a whole. The introduction mainly touch on this issue.The thesis is based on the analysis of Li Qi 'poems and the previous research about him. We can comprehend the whole thesis more precisely by dividing it into two main part:Chapter one is mainly about Li Qi 'life experience, which made all the difference to his thoughts and the way he write the poem. Being greatly influenced by the various streams of thought in the Tang dynasty, Li Qi abstained a complexity in his character, which contains the initiative of Buddhism, and the unrestraint and the loyalty for friends.Chapter two dealt with his literary achievement. As far as the contents is concerned, Li Qi excels at the poems about the life in the border area, friendship and recompense, and music. Li Qi dabbles in many different styles, he also composed a number of poems of other styles.The concluding remarks gave high prize to the worth of Li Qi' poem and his contribution to the development of the Tang poem. It 's believed that he enlarged the represent function of the classical poem by his works on the life in the border area as well as the friendship and recompense. His works on music not only enriched the national treasury of poetry, but also influenced the later works on music by Han Yu, Li He, etc.
